Flames Homecoming
UIC celebrates what makes Flames proud to be UIC — current students, staff, faculty, alumni and Chicago — Feb. 13 to 20 during homecoming week.
Presented by the Student Activities Board and the Center for Student Involvement, the Flames Homecoming 2016 week combines spirit week activities with a homecoming dance.
“We wanted a more involved type of homecoming to continue promoting our goal of creating school spirit on campus and create a community,” said Jaqueline Rojas Robles, executive board member for SAB.
The week of involvement starts with a window-decorating contest and variety show presented by UIC’s Greek life. Starting Feb. 15, the UIC community can attend a kick-off bash, participate in a service project, bowl or play casino games for free, and attend a homecoming basketball game. Use the hashtag #UICHoCo to share pictures, videos or comments.
The final hurrah will feature a homecoming dance — open to faculty, students, staff and alumni — Feb. 20, in the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier. At least 600 guests are expected to attend.
“Now UIC has a formal dance that’s open to everyone,” said Rojas, a senior in the College of Engineering. “And it’s just about everyone having a good time in the end.”
Students can buy tickets for $10 at the UIC Bookstore through Feb. 19; no tickets will be sold at Navy Pier for the day of the event. Groups of four or more get a $2 discount for each ticket purchased. One guest per ID is accepted; tickets for guests are also on sale for $10. Alumni can purchase tickets from $11.54-$22.09 online.
