Robert Klie is department head and professor in the UIC Department of Physics.  

Klie is a globally renowned expert in the use of electron microscopy to discover and study new materials at the atomic level for applications such as energy storage, quantum computing and regenerative medicine. In his career, Klie has developed new techniques that push the boundaries of electron microscopy to characterize the atomic and electronic structures of materials. At UIC, he has built one of the world’s premier microscopy centers, attracting users from around the globe to advance their science through state-of-the-art instrumentation and technical support.
