Dr. M. Roy Wilson, deputy director, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, discusses minority health and health disparities research.
Wilson is deputy director for strategic scientific planning and program coordination at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, and he works with all of the National Institutes of Health on health disparities research. He also serves as co-chair for the new NIH Common Fund programs, the Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity Initiative, and the National Research Mentoring Network.
An ophthalmologist by training, Wilson’s research has focused on the causes of low vision and blindness in populations from the Caribbean to West Africa. He has held many academic and health sciences leadership positions.
