Whose Water? Water Affordability Panel

Join us as we learn from water affordability experts from Detroit People’s Water Board and Chicago advocates as we view and discuss the film “Whose Water?,” which chronicles the movement for safe and affordable water and sanitation across five drastically different regions in the United States.

Panel discussion, 2-4:30 p.m.

The pre-film panel discussion will include “Whose Water?” filmmaker, Kate Levy, as well as the following panelists:

Detroit People’s Water Board Members:

• Briana Parker, Associate Director, Elevate Energy.
• Sylvia Orduño, Organizer, Michigan Welfare Rights Organization.
• Nicole Hill, Program Director, Connect Detroit.

Chicago Water Affordability Advocates:

• Brenda Santoyo Gomez, Senior Policy Analyst, Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO).
• Iyana Simba, City Programs  Director, Illinois Environmental Council (IEC).
• Oliver Cicioria, Environmental Justice Organizer, Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation (SOUL).

“Whose Water?” film screening and discussion, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Through the stories of communities fighting for safe, affordable water and sanitation, the film examines the industrial and governmental systems that prevent so many people from accessing this basic necessity of life and offers concrete solutions to address this unprecedented human rights crisis.

Post-film discussion facilitator:

Briana Parker, Associate Director, Elevate Energy.

Panelists will examine local, state, and national legislation about water affordability. The post-film discussion will include “Whose Water?” filmmaker, Kate Levy.
