When it comes to energy, UIC is home to a wide array of assets that can provide an immersive, on-site educational experience to all who visit. From our renewable energy sources and our two co-generation power plants, to our LEED-certified buildings and our energy conservation initiatives, UIC is well on the way to carbon neutral; students, faculty, and staff can witness cutting edge energy practices and research simply by taking a walk around campus.
Energy Awareness Month takes place in every year in October. This year, the Office of Planning, Sustainability and Project Management has coordinated a series of events in conjunction with the UIC Energy Initiative and community groups to showcase all that UIC has to offer by way of energy innovation. Understanding our role in energy demand and consumption is vital if we are to accelerate the march toward a low-carbon future that is healthy, equitable, and just!
“Charging UIC’s Energy Future” is a Symposium on Energy, Environment, and Sustainability (SEES) event and is sponsored by the Sustainability Fee. Join us for this panel and Q&A discussion to learn more about the path to a carbon neutral UIC through our efforts to reduce our reliance on the grid, retrofitting UIC’s existing buildings to increase energy efficiency, designing new buildings to be LEED-Gold certified, and considering carbon pricing or offsets.
