Pre-Med Chat with Dr. Rohan Patel

Learn about the pre-med journey of Dr. Rohan Patel (UIC Class of 2016) and hear his tips for medical school preparation and advice on navigating the challenges underrepresented students may face in the medical field.

Rohan Patel, MD (pronouns: he/him/his) is a second-year resident in radiation oncology at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center. He was born and raised in Illinois, raised by first-generation immigrants from India and Fiji. He takes pride in his multicultural upbringing that inspired him to focus on Asian and Pacific Islander activism, which led him to complete his undergraduate degree at UIC in 2016, and later pursue his dream as a physician at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. His passions range from his interests in language learning, baking, LGBTQIA+ and Asian/Pacific Islander activism, to mentorship. He hopes to focus his career on fighting against health disparities against minority communities and improving access to high-quality cancer care across the globe, especially amongst pediatric oncology patients.

This event is part of the Deconstructing AAPI Series, which seeks to expose the issues Pacific Islanders face when grouped together with Asian Americans.
