Come join us to watch Tod Browning’s “Freaks” (1932), a movie that’s been affectionately claimed by disability culture. Learn about the film, watch it for yourself and stick around to chat.
Joining us will be Aly Patsavas, assistant professor in the department of disability and human development. Patsavas’s research focuses on the cultural discourses and epistemologies of pain; and the intersections of disability, queer theory, and feminist theory. She is also a co-writer and co-producer for “Code of the Freaks,” a documentary film that critiques Hollywood’s use of disabled characters in films and centers the voices of disabled actors, artists and writers to radically reframe disability in cinema.
