Learn CPR before Cubs game

The Chicago Cubs are partnering with Illinois Heart Rescue and the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System to offer free instruction in compression-only CPR – an easy-to-learn technique, and the best way to help save the life of someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Thousands of lives are lost each year in Illinois where survival for out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest is less than 4 percent. Learn to recognize the symptoms of heart attack and how to perform compression-only CPR.

Participants will receive a free T-shirt and be entered into a raffle for Cub’s jerseys, game tickets and baseballs.

Illinois Heart Rescue is a statewide volunteer effort of EMS professionals, physicians, nurses, community groups, hospitals and governmental agencies working together to double survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest in Illinois.

Terry Vanden Hoek, head of emergency medicine at UI Hospital, is the project leader; Teri Campbell, a flight nurse at the University of Chicago Hospitals, is director. The program is sponsored by a $2.5 million grant from the Medtronic Foundation.
