I Care: Suicide, Anxiety, and Depression Awareness
Wed, Apr 25th from 5pm-6:30pm
UIC’s Science & Engineering South (Room 250)
Featuring keynote speaker Roy Petitfils. A Q&A session will immediately follow the talk.

According to College Degree Research, 7.5 out of 100,000 college students in the U.S. commit suicide annually, and in the past 50 years, the suicide rates for those aged 15 to 24 have increased over 200 percent. We want college students to have a stronger sense of self-love and self-understanding, which is why we have organized this presentation and Q&A. Around the time of finals and, for many, the call of graduation and the “real world,” Roy Petitfils’s message is one that students need to hear. In a bustling, diverse city like Chicago, the challenges and opportunities alike can be overwhelming, and the tools and reassurance that Roy offers will help students prepare for the challenges and stress that lie ahead.
Roy Petitfils is an internationally recognized expert in understanding teens and young adults. He is a therapist at Pax Renewal Center in Lafayette, LA, and he holds a Master’s in Mental Health & School Counseling from the University of Louisiana. Roy recently did a Ted talk on his book What Teenagers Want You To Know (But Won’t Tell You) and has also done many Facebook live sessions, responding to the hit Netflix series “13 Reasons Why,” which has also been viewed and shared by over 15,000 people. Roy provides solutions for parents, educators, and students facing issues such as life changes, depression, suicide, anxiety, eating disorders, self harm, and more.
