Feminisms Lunch Lecture: Disability and Pleasure

For disabled people, focusing on pleasure is a radical act. Ableism seeps into the intimate lives of many people with disabilities, often making pleasure, sexual and otherwise, a luxury rather than a given. Carrie Kaufman will guide participants in conversation about the resilience, creativity and vulnerability of disabled people. Examining her own art and activism, she will highlight the ways that people with disabilities create spaces for their own joy and pleasure outside of heteronormative and abled-centered spaces.

Carrie Kaufman is a white, queer femme, physically disabled, Jewish activist and artist raised outside of Chicago. Through writing, consulting, and workshop facilitation, she helps people think about the intersections of sex/uality and disability. She also works with other disabled activists developing workshops and curriculum to help organizations create more accessibility across the board. She is a member of the Chicago chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, a Palestinian solidarity organization, and she is a board member of Project Fierce Chicago, an organization creating housing for LGBTQ young adults.
