Fall 2024 DCC Open House

Date / Time

September 16, 2024

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

You’re invited to the Disability Cultural Center Open House on Sept. 16. Meet DCC staff and learn about the center’s plans for the semester.

This year, along with its sibling centers, the DCC is celebrating the activism that gave rise to the center, including a pop-up mini exhibit about disability activism at UIC for everyone to explore.

The second half of the Open House will be hybrid, and you’ll hear from DCC collaborators and hear some highlights for the coming semester, including ways you can get involved.

Before that, we’ll be mingling with some drinks, pizza and cupcakes on the second-floor outdoor patio of the Behavioral Sciences Building. You’re also welcome to venture inside and check out the disability activism exhibition and lounge spaces! (We’ll have gluten-free, vegan, and gluten-free and vegan options.)

  • Noon-1 p.m. In-person mingling and self-guided tours
  • 1-2 p.m. In-person and on Zoom: Welcome, DCC announcements and ways to get involved

COVID-19 safety: UIC does not require masking, but DCC staff and visitors are still masking indoors as an accessibility measure for chronically ill/immunocompromised folks and those living interdependently with them. Please wear a mask in our spaces! We’ll have extras on hand. Zoom is another COVID-cautious option.

Access info: The center is on the second floor and physically accessible via elevator. The patio can be accessed via lift and has ramps connecting its various levels. ASL interpreters will be available. For the hybrid portion, CART captions will be projected into the space with the Zoom. Please get in touch with any access requests or questions at dcc@uic.edu or 312-355-7050.
