Date / Time

April 12, 2025

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Collaboratory for Health Justice is partnering with Chicago Mahogany to provide UIC School of Public Health students with an opportunity to tour the community of North Lawndale. North Lawndale is one of the 77 community areas in Chicago located on the city’s West Side. It’s known for its rich cultural heritage and ongoing urban renewal initiatives.

This event is limited to School of Public Health students and is free. There are 48 spots available, and students are invited on a first-come, first-served basis. Please RSVP in advance.
The tour will be guided by Chicago’s renowned urban historian Shermann “Dilla” Thomas who has amassed wide-spread recognition for his powerful use of storytelling to preserve and disseminate the rich history and culture of Chicago.

If you are no longer able to make the event and need to update your RSVP, please email Cara Traczek (ctraczek@uic.edu) so your spot can go to another student.

Meet at the UIC School of Public Health to begin the tour.
