Please join us March 1 for the Chicago Disability Day of Mourning Vigil and Open Mic.
Every year, communities across the country and around the world join together for the Disability Day of Mourning.
The Disability Day of Mourning is a community vigil that honors the lives of people with disabilities killed by their families and caregivers. The disability community comes together in remembrance, to share hope for the future and to offer support.
Wednesday, March 1
5-6:30 p.m.
This vigil is a hybrid event. It will be held on Zoom and at Access Living (115 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago) (limited spots).
Nondisabled allies, family members and friends are welcome to join.
Event flow (What to Expect):
- Welcome and information about the Disability Day of Mourning.
- Reading the names of people with disabilities who were killed by their caregivers, as well as people with disabilities who have been killed by the police and disability community members who passed away in 2022.
- Open Mic for attendees to share thoughts, reflections, poems, etc.
COVID-19 safety: Please note that masks are required for entry into the Access Living building and must be worn at all times. You will also be asked to show proof of vaccination (if vaccinated) and to complete a health screener upon entry into the building. If wearing a mask is not accessible to you, please join us via Zoom!
