Arabic Beats

Are you curious in knowing how to sample a beat? Do you wonder what your words and those beats combined sound like? This workshop will teach you to sample a beat and structure your poetry. The poetry & Arabic beats workshop is geared for everyone, beginners and those who have been writing for a while.

Join us for a Poetry and Arabic beats workshop with DJ Antonio Cesar of Solidarity Studios.

DJ Antonio Cesar is an international electronic music DJ based in Chicago. He is the founder of Planet Chambo, a music and dance series that showcases green spaces in Chicago, and Ghana Music Project, a platform that helps artists across the Diaspora connect to African tradition through hip-hop and sampling. As the director of the music conservation department at Solidarity Studios, founded by Ibrahim Maali, Cesar hosts workshops to help individuals and organizations connect to their own cultural traditions through music and beat making.

Ibrahim Maali-Ibrahim is a Palestinian-American activist and Hip Hop head. After years of seeing the Palestinian narrative and history, he was so proud to be so vilified in his home, he was drawn to Hip Hop at an early age for its acknowledgment and celebration of counternarratives. During a Duke course with Grammy-winning producer 9th Wonder and esteemed sociologist Dr. Mark Anthony Neal, Ibrahim was inspired to create Solidarity Studios by combining this in-depth academic study on successful nonviolent organizing with his love and passion for hip hop as a common language of global youth.
