Alzheimer Research in African American Population: A Symposium

On Wednesday, February 6, the College of Pharmacy kicks off Black History Month with a symposium on African American population with Alzheimer’s disease. The keynote speaker is Dr. Lisa Barnes, the Alla V. and Solomon Jesmer Professor of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine in the department of Neurological Sciences at Rush University Medical Center, and a cognitive neuropsychologist in the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Her research focus is on racial disparities in chronic diseases of aging including Alzheimer’s Disease and HIV. She is the Principal Investigator of three community-based cohort studies of older African Americans, and the Director of the Rush Center of Excellence on Disparities in HIV and Aging. Dr. Barnes has been recognized for her contributions to minority aging and health disparities and has received awards from the National Institutes of Health, national health organizations, and private foundations. The symposium will be in conference room 134-1 in the College of Pharmacy from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
