Considering summer courses

Summer at UIC.

I first started attending UIC in the fall of 2013. I have a goal to graduate with my bachelor degree’s in the spring of 2017.

I found out last semester that I might have to attend UIC for a fifth year, which is a super senior, if I don’t plan on taking summer courses at some point. Just attending fall and spring semesters will delay my goal graduation date.

My academic advisor suggested that for the next two summers I should take some of my classes at a community college. The classes would transfer over to UIC. So I did some research and found out that Kennedy King College offers some of classes. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to start my summer classes last summer because of the cost.

At this point in my education, I have been taking a lot of general courses at UIC. For example my English and math classes. My major is accounting. I was told by counselors that the first two years of college is for exploring. I’m in that process now. I am satisfied with my major but I haven’t begun taking classes for my major. Once my junior year comes around, which is next fall, I will take more of my required courses to graduate in the College of Business Administration.

Summer is a good time to get back on track to graduate on time. Try researching some community colleges in your area and find out if they offer the classes that you need to graduate and take a look at UIC’s summer offerings. Most of us aren’t doing much in the summer anyways. Why not knock out some classes?

Matthew Maggit (F)

Matthew Maggit is a sophomore in accounting in the College of Business Administration. Matthew decided to come to UIC because of the business program’s reputation and because he wanted to study at a campus with a  diverse atmosphere. He likes how close the campus is to downtown Chicago and the Willis Tower. In his free time, he loves to surround myself with loved ones; he enjoys sports and going to the gym.
