‘Chicago Ideas Week’ To Visit UIC’s Electronic Visualization Laboratory Oct. 8
Chicago Ideas Week, a series of events that each October brings together some of the world’s leading innovators to share ideas and inspire change, offers the public a behind-the-scenes look at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Electronic Visualization Laboratory on Oct. 8.
The UIC Electronic Visualization Laboratory, or EVL, is an interdisciplinary research laboratory specializing in the design and development of high-resolution visualization, virtual-reality and networked collaboration display systems utilizing shared global cyber-infrastructure.
EVL will premiere its new CAVE2 virtual-reality room, transporting visitors to cyberspace, where they are immersed in scientific and engineering worlds — from flying to Mars to watching blood flow through the brain’s vasculature.
The tour of the laboratory, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., will be hosted by EVL Director Jason Leigh, UIC professor of computer science, and Associate Director Maxine Brown.
UIC’s Electronic Visualization Laboratory is the oldest formal collaboration between engineering and art in the country and offers graduate M.S., Ph.D. and M.F.A. degrees.
