Campus News: recognize outstanding women
Woman of the Year
Nominations will be accepted through July 1 for UIC’s Woman of the Year Award. The award is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women.

Run for a good cause
Sign up to run the Chicago Marathon and raise money for diabetes research with UIC’s Cellmates on the Run team.
The team, organized by Jose Oberholzer, chief of transplantation surgery, raises money for the Chicago Diabetes Project. Last year’s marathon team raised about $200,000 for diabetes research.
The 2014 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, a 26.2-mile race through 26 Chicago neighborhoods, is scheduled for Oct. 12.
Nominate outstanding staff
Nominations are due this month for the Janice Watkins Award for Distinguished Civil Service and the Award of Merit.
The Watkins Award is presented each year to one or more support staff employees. Nominations are due June 27 for the award, established in memory of Janice Watkins, president of the Staff Advisory Council, who died in 1974.
The Award of Merit recognizes excellence in work performance and leadership for up to 30 academic professional and support staff employees. To be eligible for the $2,500 award, employees must be at least 50 percent time and have worked at UIC for at least three years. Nominations are due June 28.
What’s the latest WoRD?
