Research funding

Applications are due Friday for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science pilot grant funding in health information technology.

Grants are available for $25,000 per year for up to two years. Clinical, research and tenure-track faculty members are eligible to apply.

Honoring outstanding employees

Nominations are due June 28 for the Award of Merit, a $2,500 award given to up to 30 academic professional and support staff employees at the Employee Recognition Award Program Nov. 5.

To be eligible, employees must be at least 50 percent time and have worked at UIC for at least three years.

The award is given for excellence in work performance and leadership.

Retiring soon?

Employees who plan to retire in the next five years can attend a seminar Thursday hosted by the State Universities Retirement System.

The seminar, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the College of Medicine Research Building’s Moss Auditorium, covers topics including service credit, retirement calculations, salary averages, insurance and more.

Registration is required.

Father’s Day basketball

Parents and their daughters can bond on the basketball court at a three-hour day camp hosted by women’s basketball coach Regina Miller June 16.

The Parent-Daughter Camp takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Flames Athletic Center. Cost is $30.

Library construction

Access to the third and fourth floors of the Daley Library will be restricted this summer during construction.

Elevators, stairwells and the light wells between the third and fourth floors will be closed intermittently as the library expands its quiet study areas.

Library hours also change for the summer session. 

Book club


The WoRD Book Club, sponsored by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women, has chosen its summer selection: Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation — and Positive Strategies for Change, by Linda Babcock and Sara Laschever.

The group will meet to discuss the book from noon to 1 p.m. July 15 in the Daley Library. The campus community is welcome.
