LADIES NIGHT OUT

Celebrate the strength of breast cancer survivors and cheer on the women’s basketball team Feb. 18 at the third annual Ladies Night Out at the UIC Pavilion.

The community event, sponsored by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women’s Community Relations Committee, will include a reception, game and special halftime celebration featuring breast cancer survivors. The event is open to all students, employees, community members and cancer survivors affiliated with UI Health.

USG RECRUITMENT

The Undergraduate Student Government is looking for dedicated students to serve as assembly members for the academic school year.

USG, the official governing body of undergraduate students, includes a president, vice president, secretary and 30 voting members of the assembly.

USG members work to enhance student issues on campus, improve their leadership and professional skills and have the opportunity to work with campus administrators on a variety of campus issues.

NEW LECTURE SERIES

A new campus lecture series will showcase research carried out across UIC that aims to improve student success.

The series is sponsored by the Office for Research on Student Success, part of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs.

The first lecture takes place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in 101 Lecture Center B. Sue Farruggia, assistant vice provost, will discuss “The Role of Noncognitive Factors in UIC Student Success.”

Part of the UIC Student Success Initiative, the lecture series aims to open a cross-disciplinary dialogue among researchers to use different perspectives and approaches to answer questions related to student success at UIC.

RECOGNIZING STUDENT SERVICE

Nominations are now being accepted for the Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards.

The volunteerism and leadership awards include the Chancellor’s Student Service Award, Eugertha Bates Memorial Award and Jane Addams Distinguished Service Award. Students may also be nominated for induction into the Activities Honorary Society. Outstanding undergraduate, graduate and professional students who have given their time and talent to campus or community service can be nominated for the awards.

Nominations can be submitted until 5 p.m. Feb. 12.

Winners will be presented awards at the 44th Annual Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards Ceremony April 14.

EXCELLENT ADVISING

Nominations can be submitted through Feb. 15 for the 2016 Provost’s Excellence in Undergraduate Advising Award.

Established in 2011, the award recognizes those who have demonstrated exemplary skills in academic advising and a commitment to student success. Eligible employees have nonfaculty positions and spend a significant portion of their job advising undergraduates. Three $750 awards are given each year.

GREEN PROJECTS

The first step for student proposals to help make UIC a greener campus are due Feb. 15 to the Sustainability Fee Advisory Board.

The Sustainability Fee, $3 per semester paid by all UIC students, funds small, short-term projects, helps subsidize larger, long-term projects and helps fund student travel to related conferences.

The advisory board includes students, faculty and staff.

All UIC students and student organizations are eligible to apply.

SNOW REMOVAL HOTLINE

During and after a winter storm, Facilities Management crews work around the clock to clear building entrances, streets, sidewalks and parking lots. Priority is always given to the hospital and clinics, disability-access entrances and parking spaces, emergency routes and public walkways.

Report problems related to snow and ice to the 24/7 snow removal hotline, 5-SNOW (312-355-7669). Provide location, time and a phone number or e-mail address for follow-up.
