DONATE ITEMS FOR POP-UP PANTRY

Items for the UIC Pop-Up Pantry — nonperishable, unopened, undamaged and non-expired — will be collected from Oct. 30 to Nov. 13 by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women Staff Advocacy subcommittee.

The pantry needs boxed or canned vegetables, cereal, rice, pasta, tuna, canned beans soup, instant meals, macaroni and cheese, granola or protein bars, powdered milk, instant coffee, tea, peanut butter and oatmeal, plus toothpaste, deodorant and soap.

Collection boxes are located in 1728 University Hall, 105 College of Dentistry, first floor Disability, Health and Social Policy Building and first floor of the School of Public Health & Psychiatric Institute.

CHARITY FUND DRIVE IS ON

The Campus Charitable Fund Drive, through Nov. 18, benefits 12 umbrella charity federations representing over 1,500 charitable agencies.

UIC employees can donate through a continuous payroll deduction or one-time donation.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR HONORARY DEGREES

Nominations for honorary degrees are due Dec. 1.

An honorary degree may be awarded for contributions to the scholarly or professional world, to public service or to UIC’s achievements and the ideals of its missions of teaching, research, service and economic development.

Nominees can be persons of national or international renown in or outside official academic disciplines. Some relationship with UIC is desirable but not required.

HEALTH DISPARITIES AND AMERICAN INDIANS

“Understand and Addressing Health Disparities in American Indians,” a lecture by Ronny Bell, will be delivered at 4 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Moss Auditorium, College of Medicine Research Building.

A member of the Lumbee Indian tribe, Bell is professor of public health sciences at Wake Forest University. He is director of the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity at Wake Forest.
