Cultural showcase
Vote for your favorite student organization performance Thursday at the UIC Cultural Showcase.
The event begins at 6 p.m. in Student Center East’s Illinois Room.
Student groups set to perform include Alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Bhangra, Dangeraas, Dhaamal, Dilinois A Cappella, Filipinos in Alliance, Fuego, Movimiento Latino, Primo Dance Troupe and Students for Justice in Palestine.
Audience members join faculty and staff judges in selecting the top performances.
Collection drive
Student Leadership Development and Volunteer Services is collecting new books and toys for children at the Children’s Hospital University of Illinois.
Items must be new. Requested toys include: infant toys, books, coloring books, crayons, Play-Doh, rattles, board games, stuffed animals, playing cards and toys that light up or make noise.
Collection bins are located in the Behavioral Sciences Building, Student Services Building, Commons West, Commons East, Stukel Towers, Marie Robinson Hall, Thomas Beckham Hall, Honors College, Student Recreation Facility, College of Applied Health Sciences, College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy.

Future of RTA
Transportation experts will examine the future of the Regional Transportation Authority at a panel discussion Dec. 3.
The event, sponsored by the Great Cities Institute and Urban Transportation Center, takes place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in 302 Student Center East.
Panelists include Frank Beal, executive director, Metropolis Strategies; Randy Blankenhorn, executive director, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning; Jacky Grimshaw, vice president of policy, Center for Neighborhood Technology; Steve Schlickman, executive director, UIC Urban Transportation Center; and Peter Skosey, executive vice president, Metropolitan Planning Council.

Improving the community
What would you do if you could spend $1.7 billion to improve your community?
Join a discussion about tax increment financing from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in Room 1-470 Daley Library.
The event is sponsored by the TIF Access Project, a task force run by students in the Jane Addams College of Social work that provides information about the purpose and societal implications of tax increment financing in the Chicago area.

Transportation plans
How does transportation around campus affect you?
Share your opinions through Dec. 31 in a survey created by the UIC Office of Sustainability, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and Active Transportation Alliance.
The groups are creating a transportation plan for the UIC campus and surrounding area.
Interested in journalism?
UIC News seeks two interns to add a student voice to its work in news and social media. It’s a great opportunity to gain experience writing for print and online, including news and feature writing, video and social media.
Applicants should have experience in writing for publications (online or print) and an interest in journalism. Video and photography skills are a plus. Interns must enroll in an internship course for elective credit.
