Basketball’s Story named newcomer of week
Women’s basketball player Rachel Story was selected the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week for Nov. 19-25.
The junior transfer from Louisville poured in a career-high 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting in a nonconference loss to Illinois State Nov. 21.
She posted a career-high five assists and added six rebounds against Illinois State.
The Milwaukee native has scored 17 points or higher in all four of the Flames’ games this season.She ranks fourth among league scorers with an average of 20 points per game.
Story is tied for fourth in the conference in assists (4) and is tied for 14th in steals (1.5).
“Rachel has the ability to score in a variety of ways,” head coach Regina Miller said.
“We are still figuring out our offensive identity and many of her shots have been created on her own.
“She has provided our offense with a spark when we needed it and has hit some big shots for us.”
The honor marks the first Newcomer of the Week accolade for the Flames since the award’s inception at the start of the season.
The Flames return to action for a match at 2 p.m. Saturday at Southeast Missouri, beginning a three-game road stretch.
UIC travels to take on St. Louis Monday, then visits Indiana State Dec. 7.
