Noon – 2 p.m.

WHERE:
UIC African-American Cultural Center
830 S. Halsted Street

DETAILS:
Veterans and reservists from all military branches are invited to participate in a discussion between Vietnam and post-Vietnam era veterans that covers issues such as military necessity, self-preservation, citizenship, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, identity, and service.

“Thank You For Your Service,” along with a corresponding exhibit, aims to encourage participants and visitors to consider what shared experiences continue to resonate among veterans and the ways that social stigmas and policies, technology, and politics affect the ways that civilians relate to veterans.

The affiliated installation highlights the perspective of African-Americans who served in the military featuring historical and political maps, archival photographs, legal and personal documents, stories, and objects that correspond to the Civil War, World War II, Vietnam War, and the War on Terror.

Admission is free. Call (312) 996-9549.
