Announcing the 2018 UIC Urban Forum
The People’s Money: Pensions, Debt and Government Services
Thursday, September 13th, 8:45am – 1:00pm
Illinois Rooms, Student Center East

Cities and other local governments across the U.S. have yet to see their revenue streams return to the pre-Great Recession era. Taxpayers’ demands for an adequate level of public services and the escalating costs of providing infrastructure and funding pensions have increasingly clashed, resulting in difficult fiscal times even as the general economy of the nation has improved. The challenge confronting the country’s cities is no more evident than in Illinois, where the state’s fiscal crisis compounds cities’ fiscal problems.

The 2018 UIC Urban Forum will feature expert papers and panels that deal with issues such as long-term liabilities, budget implications of the new federal tax act for cities, disconnections between city fiscal planning and economic growth engines, municipal bond market changes, and creative new fiscal tactics that cities are using to meet residents’ needs.

Tickets: $25 for general public (includes lunch)

Admission is complimentary for all Chicago-area teachers, faculty and students, but online registration is still required. Please bring a school ID for free admission.

All attendees must register online prior to the Forum. To secure your registration and for more information, please visit uicurbanforum.org
