New UIC Student Veterans Center opens on Veterans Day

Veterans and University of Illinois at Chicago officials will dedicate UIC’s new Student Veterans Center at a Nov. 11 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Visitors will also be able to view a unique art exhibit, “The Things We Carried,” curated by student veterans at UIC. Inspired by the book “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien, the exhibit showcases photos and artwork from past and present wars, giving a glimpse of life during deployment.

DETAILS:

In addition to being a welcoming and interactive space for student veterans, the UIC Student Veterans Center will provide a variety of resources, including career services, information sessions, textbook lending library, help with GI Bill questions and VA forms, and academic advising. In addition, drop-in hours for services from the John Marshall Law School Veterans Clinic and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center will be offered.

Admission is free to the UIC community and is hosted by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
