Abusive Coaches, Cheating Athletes: College athletes who have abusive coaches are more willing to cheat in order to win than players whose coaches are not abusive, according to a study led by Mariya Yukhymenko, visiting research specialist in UIC’s Learning Sciences Research Institute. Yukhymenko’s analysis of responses to the NCAA’s survey of almost 20,000 student-athletes also found even stronger associations between ethical leadership and positive outcomes, such as college choice satisfaction and perceived inclusion climate on the team.
