Ecojamapalooza will highlight UIC’s Earth Day celebration with free activities, performances, giveaways and information. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for April 24.

The activities, sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, will be truly active. Participants can race on clown-sized bicycles, attach themselves to an inflatable bungee cord and run until it pulls them back, and pedal a stationary bike attached to a blender to make smoothies.

Live music will include UIC student and blues singer Jacob Schulz. Cultural groups will demonstrate several types of dance and martial arts.

West Town Bikes will offer free bike safety checks and accept donated bikes for its youth programs. Visitors can get an Ecojam punchcard, visit five information tables to have it punched, and return it to the Office of Sustainability’s table to receive a free sandwich or T-shirt.

A scavenger hunt will highlight UIC’s resources for sustainability.

“Here is where visitors will discover that sustainability includes not only nature and the environment, but goes beyond green to incorporate social justice and culture, health and wellness, economy and transportation,” said Lisa Sanzenbacher, program coordinator for the Office of Sustainability.
