HEALS: Portraits of Survivorship: Sexual Violence in the Media

Are you interested in building connections, healing and working toward justice with survivors at UIC?

The Campus Advocacy Network invites you to HEALS: Healing for Engagement, Action and Leadership by Survivors, a drop-in gathering space for UIC students who have experienced gender-based violence (domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, harassment, stalking and family abuse) and those who support them. Over lunch and crafts, we will check in, celebrate wins, troubleshoot challenges and discuss issues related to safety and healing.

Our topic for Wednesday, April 23, is Portraits of Survivorship: Sexual Violence in the Media.

How does the media get survivorship right, and wrong? We’ll discuss portrayals of survivors in social media, music, TV, film and the news and reflect on what these stories mean for survivors in their everyday lives.

UIC undergraduate, graduate and professional students are welcome. All sessions are hybrid, so you can join us in person or on Zoom. Lunch is provided for in-person participants.
