Dr. Jennifer Lim is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a leading authority on retinal and vitreoretinal diseases. She has performed more than 6,000 vitreoretinal surgeries and directed more than 60 clinical studies and trials on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular edema and retinal vein occlusion and complex retinal detachments. She is active in clinical and AI research and has a National Institutes of Health Research Project grant focused on retinal imaging. 

Lim is one of only a few surgeons in the United States to perform implantation surgery for Argus II Retinal Prosthesis, which can restore vision in patients with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare eye disease that damages the retina and causes loss of vision. 

In 2013, she published a book, “Age-Related Macular Degeneration,” now in its third printing. In 2024, she published her second book, “Case Studies in Medical Retina: A Diagnostic Approach.” She has published over 380 articles and 30 book chapters on topics in ophthalmology. 

Lim is currently president of the Retina Society, deputy editor-in-chief of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeWiki information website, associate editor of JAMA Ophthalmology and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society UIC Councilor. She is also a co-founder of Women in Retina, a peer mentorship network section within the American Society of Retina Specialists.
