Every summer, the Atkins Medicinal Plant Garden hosts a one-day Garden Walk event that is open to the UIC community and the public.
Faculty and scientists, including postgraduate trainees in the Pharmacognosy Institute and the UIC College of Pharmacy, organize the event, which involves tours of the Atkins Medicinal Plant Garden as well as a lecture by an expert on a topic related to medicinal plants and/or plants used for human health. This year’s Garden Walk will feature the Distinguished Annual Norman R. Farnsworth Lecture, presented by Elaine Elisabetsky, an ethnopharmacologist and professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre, Brazil). The lecture will take place at 12:30 pm.
