Diane Primo, founder and CEO of IntraLink Global, a next-generation marketing and content firm, is commencement speaker.

She has pioneered new products, processes and systems during her 30-year career. She led some of the top product marketing organizations, including Ameritech, SBC, CDW and brands in the Quaker Oats portfolio.

Primo raises funds for the Primo Center for Women & Children, a homeless shelter on Chicago’s West Side.

 

 

Bonnie and Mark Barnes

Mark Barnes, co-founder with his wife, Bonnie, of the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Foundation, will give the commencement speech.

The DAISY Award, celebrated in nearly 2,000 health care facilities around the world, has honored more than 45,000 nurses.

The foundation funds grants focused on treatment of patients with autoimmune diseases and cancer.

Grant Korgan, the first athlete with spinal cord injury to ski 80 miles to the South Pole, is commencement speaker.

Korgan was president of his own nanotechnology company when he was injured in a snowmobiling accident at age 32.

Nell Bernstein, author of Burning Down the House: The End of Juvenile Prison and All Alone in the World: Children of the Incarcerated, is commencement speaker.

She speaks across the country on the impact of incarceration on young people and families, and has appeared on “Fresh Air,” “The Tavis Smiley Show” and MSNBC.

Named a Soros Justice Fellow, she received a White House Champion of Change award.

 

 

 

Bill Fitzsimmons

William Fitzsimmons, executive vice president for global regulatory affairs, global clinical and research quality assurance of Astellas Pharma Global Development Inc., will give the commencement address. Before the merger forming Astellas in 2005, Fitzsimmons was an executive with Fujisawa Healthcare for 15 years.

 

 

Mark Mattaini

Mark Mattaini, associate professor in the Jane Addams College of Social Work, is commencement speaker.

He has extensive experience in counseling and mental health in settings ranging from Manhattan to rural Alaska.

He has written or co-edited 11 books, including Foundations of Social Work Practice, PEACE POWER for Adolescents and Strategic Nonviolent Power: The Science of Satyagraha.

 

 

 

Lee Fisher

Urban Planning & Public Affairs

Lee Fisher, president and CEO of CEOs for Cities, will speak at commencement.

He leads a national innovation network of urban leaders who share the smartest ideas and practices for city and regional economic competitiveness and success.

Former lieutenant governor of Ohio, Fisher is a senior fellow with the Center for Economic Development at Cleveland State University and an urban scholar with UIC’s College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs.

 

 

Dr. Victor Dzau

Medicine
2 p.m. Friday, UIC Pavilion

Victor Dzau, president of the Institute of Medicine, will make the commencement address. He will receive the college’s Medal of Honor.

Dzau is chancellor emeritus and professor of medicine at Duke University, and former Hersey Professor of Theory and Practice of Medicine and chairman of medicine at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He is known for his research in cardiovascular medicine and genetics and his leadership in health care innovation. He advises governments, corporations and universities worldwide.

 

 

LaMar Hasbrouck

LaMar Hasbrouck, executive director of the National Association of County and City Health Officials, will speak at commencement.

He is a consultant on health matters around the world, including South America, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

The association works with local health departments seeking health, equity and security for all in their communities.

 

Steven Fradkin

Steven Fradkin, president of the wealth management business unit at Northern Trust, is commencement speaker.

He was president of corporate and institutional services, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and head of the corporation’s international business.

Fradkin is on the board of directors of the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.

 

 

 

Clark Stanford

Dentistry
10 a.m. Saturday, UIC Forum

Clark Stanford, dean of the College of Dentistry, is commencement speaker.

Former associate dean for research and professor of prosthodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, he is a researcher whose work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, private foundations and industry.

He is the author of 18 book chapters, 111 published papers and more than 140 research abstracts.

 

 

Jenny Zhao

Engineering
2 p.m. Saturday, UIC Pavilion

Jenny Zhao, who oversees the general operation of Google Beijing and directs engineering for Google’s Search Infrastructure technology, is commencement speaker.

Zhao received Google’s Great Manager Award in 2011. She has built multiple successful technical teams, including Performance Product Operation, APAC Maps Quality and China Maps.

She is a UIC graduate in computer science.

 

 

 

Michael Delfini

Architecture, Design & the Arts
7 p.m. Saturday, UIC Pavilion

Michael Delfini, chief operating officer for Shedd Aquarium, will speak at commencement.

Under Delfini’s leadership, the aquarium unveiled five successful special exhibits, including Seahorse Symphony, which won the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Exhibit Award in 1999. He is a UIC graduate in graphic design.

 

 

 

Maria Hinojosa

Liberal Arts & Sciences
10 a.m. Sunday, UIC Pavilion

Maria Hinojosa, winner of four Emmys for her work as news anchor and reporter, will give the commencement address. She will receive an honorary degree.

She is anchor and executive producer of NPR’s only Latino news and culture show, “Latino USA,” and host and executive producer for the upcoming PBS show “America by the Numbers with Maria Hinojosa.”

Her 25-year career includes reporting for major broadcast networks and anchoring the Emmy-winning talk show “Maria Hinojosa: One-on-One.”
