The UIC climate commitments were devised by the Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy and include four major goals:

  • reduce carbon emissions to become a carbon-neutral campus
  • reduce, reuse and recycle to divert 90 percent of waste now sent to landfills
  • increase water efficiency to use no more water than the amount that falls within UIC’s boundaries
  • create a resilient campus landscape that supports plants and animals to increase biodiversity on campus

Cindy Klein-Banai, associate chancellor for sustainability, will discuss how the university plans to achieve its sustainability goals and reduce the campus’s energy footprint.
