Lorelei Stewart

Lorelei Stewart is the director and chief curator of Gallery 400 on the University of Illinois Chicago campus. 

Stewart is a seasoned member of UIC’s and Chicago’s vibrant contemporary arts scene, who also serves as a lecturer for the UIC museum and exhibition studies program within the School of Art and Art History.  She has supported artistic creativity and presented groundbreaking programs of contemporary art and architecture, inspiring the imagination of audiences. Stewart’s expertise includes cultivating collaboration and partnerships, as well as fundraising and leading with a focus on equity, inclusion and care. 

Stewart has championed Gallery 400’s mission to present and support the leading edge of contemporary art, architecture and design by organizing over 40 exhibitions, including the Joyce Award-winning exhibition “Edgar Arceneaux: The Alchemy of Comedy …Stupid.” She initiated the acclaimed “At the Edge: Innovative Art in Chicago” series, a commissioning program that encouraged experimental practices among artists in the Chicago area.
