Lecture marks 30th anniversary of Lithuanian chair at UIC

The University of Illinois at Chicago will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its endowed chair in Lithuanian studies with a reception and talk by Leonidas Donskis, a Lithuanian philosopher, political theorist and member of European Parliament.

In 1984, an endowed chair in Lithuanian studies became the first externally funded chair at UIC.

In honor of the anniversary, the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its School of Literatures, Cultural Studies and Linguistics will host an event to thank the Lithuanian community and contributors to the endowment for their support and partnership.

Featured speaker Leonidas Donskis will present a lecture titled “A Truly European Story:  Lithuania in the 21st Century World.”

Donskis has written and edited more than 30 books exploring political theory, the history of ideas, the philosophy of culture, and the philosophy of literature. In 2004, the European Commission awarded him the title of Ambassador for Tolerance and Diversity in Lithuania.
