Julia Anglen Bauer
Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Biography
Julia Bauer studies how our environment affects our overall health, from the air we breathe to the food we eat and the products we use. She uses biological clues — like teeth and blood samples — to assess how pesticides, forever chemicals and other environmental factors affect our bodies.
Previously, Bauer investigated the impacts of arsenic, mercury and other elements on brain health and cognition. She’s currently focused on the environmental factors linked to Alzheimer’s disease in aging adults.
Bauer is interested in diverse populations across the entire lifespan, from children to older adults. She partners with cohorts including the Hispanic Community Health Study at UIC, the All of Us research program at the National Institutes of Health and the New Hampshire Birth Cohort Study, a long-running study of families in rural communities.
