E.J. Fagan is interested in how legislatures process information and solve problems and how party elites influence policy. His recent book, “The Thinkers: The Rise of Partisan Think Tanks and the Polarization of American Politics,” details how partisan think tanks have displaced nonpartisan experts to become the closest policy advisors to the Republican and Democratic parties. “The Thinkers” also explores the history of think tanks and how they have influenced the current polarization of American politics.

Fagan is a frequent media contributor whose writing has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Business Insider and the Austin-American Statesman. He has provided subject-matter expertise in stories and segments on outlets such as Scripps News, Crain’s Chicago Business, the Chicago Tribune, ABC7 Chicago and WBEZ.
