VOICES: Y. Malik Jalal

Date / Time

April 3, 2025

5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Join artist Y. Malik Jalal at Gallery 400 for a discussion about his art, sculptures that expand dialogues on Black history, post-industrial production and the interconnectivity that highways and automobiles enable.

Building on the legacies of Black artisans working in the iron and steel industries in the South, Jalal welds steel and bronze to reframe U.S. histories formed by morphing industries and inequalities. He draws from traditional craftsmanship, advertising, popular culture, Islam, Christianity and West African customs and belief systems to address ideas linked to geography, capital and horror.
