Tea Time at the Disability Cultural Center

Date / Time

October 29, 2024

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Learn about medicinal teas and how the UIC Heritage Garden makes tea!

Eyzel Torres-Vicencio will join us to tell us about “Plant Power: A Guide to Managing Anxiety Using Medicinal Tea,” a comic she wrote as a master’s student in biomedical visualization at UIC.

From the zine: “What is anxiety? Are some students more likely to experience it than others? Can plants help manage anxiety symptoms?”

We’ll also be joined by the Heritage Garden with their Tea Library, who will share with us some history of the library, how they create the tea and share some of their delicious tea!

Come sip and savor some plant wisdom.

Torres-Vicencio’s experiences as a first-generation, queer, working-class woman of color have led her to value social justice work and its importance in higher education. These intersections culminated in “Plant Power.” Eyzel is based in the Chicago area and loves creating educational art that focuses on the environment, public health and patient education. Her hobbies include gardening, making jewelry and spending time with her beautiful cats.

All are welcome.
