“Playing,” by Eduardo Coutinho: A Brazilian cinema session

Date / Time

March 20, 2025

6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The UIC Institute for the Humanities will screen “Playing” (Jogo deCena, 2007), considered by many critics as a film that synthesizes the works of acclaimed Brazilian documentarian Eduardo Coutinho.

Coutinho is famous for making a cinema of encounters. He was able to unfold individual realities as well as Brazilian ones through conversation.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Vitor Soster, a doctoral student at the State University of Campinas (Brazil) and a visiting scholar at UIC, thanks to the São Paulo Research Foundation.

The cinema session is sponsored by the UIC  Institute for the Humanities, English Department, Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies and the Moving Image Arts Program.
